Our Ensembles
Dougherty Valley offers 4 amazing ensembles that you can progress through during your time with us!
There are no specific auditions required for admission into any of these choirs. Vocal Ensemble is open to all, and after your first year in choir, Mrs. Walker will evaluate your musicianship skills over the course of your time in choir to determine which ensemble you will be in the following year. In essence, the entire year is your audition.
This mixed choir is open to all DVHS students who wish to sing and develop a joy for music. With no previous musical experience required, their first year in the program will be spent learning the basics of choral musicianship like sight reading, note rhythms, blend, balance, and the role of each part in the larger choir. Singers will also be exposed to a diverse repertoire, ranging from classical and folk songs to pop and jazz music.

Vocal Ensemble
As our intermediate SATB choir, Concert Choir allows its members to dig into the nuances of their songs by introducing them to new styles of choral music, encouraging even more musical independence, and reinforcing the characteristics required to shine in a multi-part ensemble, with an emphasis on mastering chords, harmonies, and horizontal listening.

This SSAA choir is a chance for soprano and alto singers to mature and grow into their parts. More advanced sight reading, learning music theory, and spending increasing amounts of time in sectionals are all aspects of Treble Clef aimed at molding these singers into truly independent musicians with a strong command of their part.

Chamber Singers
Chamber Singers are a smaller group of the choir program's best vocalists. Joining this ensemble requires singers to demonstrate strong leadership and musical skills as the foremost representatives of DVHS Choir. Singers must be able to fully learn complex music in sectionals or on their own with the help of part tapes. Out-of-school commitments will increase, as will the yearly repertoire, pushing singers to be the best they can be by utilizing the musicianship skills they've built over their previous years in the program.
